With Oudtshoorn nearby ( a 65 km scenic mountain drive ), you can also do a day tour to see the Karoo, which is a semi-desert area and well known for its Ostrich farming.  You can visit Safari Ostrich Show Farm to learn more about the biggest bird in the world that cannot fly as well as have amazing personal Elephant Experiences at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge and also visit the well known Cango Caves and Cango Wildlife Ranch.

Mossel Bay is growing and evolving in the sports categories.  One of our locally based heroes is Louis Oosthuizen, one of the world’s top golfers.  Mossel Bay have 2 top golf courses, one of which ( Pinnacle Point Resort ) is considered in the top 10 New Courses in the World.  It is sure to challenge your skills!  We also have tennis, squash, rugby, cricket, football, beach volleyball, swimming, canoeing, fishing, cycling and running facilities. We also have some “offroad” sports facilities in the form of Trail Running & Mountain Biking trails!

Mossel Bay and the Garden Route is popular with adventure sports seekers. The newest craze is Trail Running and Mountain Biking. Our area caters well for these sports as there are many trails available to explore!  Other very popular activities in our area is Great White Shark Cage Diving, SCUBA Diving, Whale Watching, Game Safari Drives, Skydiving, Surfing, Boating, Fishing ( River and Ocean ) etc.

The rest of the Garden Route offer the worlds highest commercial bungy jump ( 219m ) at Bloukranz Bridge.  This can be part of a day tour passing George, Wilderness, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and Tsitsikamma.  The Garden Route also offer you kayak tours, paragliding, abseiling, kloofing as well as a popular family activity called Canopy Tree Top Tours.

The local art can be seen all over our beautiful harbor town.  Our unique coffee shops are not only well decorated with their own personalities, but also display some of our local art.  Please be sure to visit, Baruch’s Coffee Shop, Blue Shed Coffee Roastery and Delfinos at the point where you have magnificent ocean views from the deck.

Mossel Bay has quite a few restaurants and coffees shops.  Beside the normal franchise establishments, we have unique and original restaurants and coffee shops all over town.  Baruch’s Coffee have amazing tasting coffee and is located near the mall.  The Blue Shed Coffee Roastery is located in town and have a great harbor view.  You will find the decor and setting refreshing and they serve great coffee.  Delfinos is located on the point, just below Kingfisher.  They have ocean views and very popular.  Sea Gypsea is located near the harbor area and is a comfortable seafood restaurant.  Kaai4, also near the harbor, creates a unique “open-fire” atmosphere with great food and amazing sunsets.  Be sure to try to visit all of the above mentioned places to experience the real Mossel Bay.

Fine Wines in the Garden Route

The Karoo is also known for its very popular wine route called Route 62.  Here you can taste excellent wines and liqueurs from top estates.  Please visit Garden Route Wines for more information on wine tours and the wine farms in the Garden Route.  You do not have to be on a organised tour to do tastings from these farms, you can also drive yourself.  Please make sure you have a designated driver with you.
